Gifts, grants and wishes

For teenagers and young adults aged 13 to 24 with cancer in North West England and North Wales, and their families.

How to apply

Fill in the right form

Giddo’s Gift improves the lives of teenagers and young adults with cancer by providing gifts, financial support and bereavement grants. To apply, please download and fill in the right form below.

Applications usually come through a health professional, such as a doctor or social worker, who supports the application. We work closely with social and support workers at six hospitals.

The trustees aim to tell every applicant the outcome within four weeks of receiving a complete application, and urgent applications are considered as soon as possible.

For any questions, email grants@giddosgift.com.

Our grant-making policy

The principles, criteria and process the trustees follow when approving grants.

1. Purpose

Under the terms of the Trust Deed dated 5 August 2017, the objects of the charity are:

  • To provide financial support, gifts or wishes to teenagers and young adults (13 to 24 years) with cancer
  • To give a regular financial grant to Sarcoma UK and Histio UK to fund vital childhood cancer research, depending on the funds available
  • If a young person aged 13 to 24 dies, to give a grant to their next of kin to help with funeral expenses
2. Priorities for support

The number of projects the charity can support is limited by the funds available for distribution in any year.

3. Principles

In awarding grants, the trustees apply these principles:

  • Applications from North West England and North Wales are eligible
  • The individual must have a cancer or cancer-related diagnosis
  • Applications must be made by individuals, not organisations
  • Applications from previous recipients, or from previously unsuccessful applicants, are considered on their own merits
4. How to apply

Applications should be made with this policy in mind, using the application form from this website, by sending a paper copy of the form, by emailing the trustees at grants@giddosgift.com, or in writing to Giddo’s Gift, 6 Pwll Y Hwyaden, Flint, Flintshire CH6 5TW.

5. What we need before awarding a grant

The application should:

  • Tell the trustees what the grant is for and how it will be used
  • Give the name and full contact details of a referee, who must be a health professional such as a doctor or social worker
  • Be signed or confirmed by the applicant (or, for anyone under 18, by their parent or guardian) to confirm that the information is correct
6. Assessment

Every application is first checked against the basic criteria, and applicants may be asked for more information. The trustees consider grants at their meetings, and aim to tell applicants the outcome within four weeks of a complete application, including references. Urgent applications are considered as soon as possible.

Like many charitable trusts, we receive far more applications than we can fund. Even when an application meets our criteria, we may be unable to give a grant, and the trustees do not have to explain an unsuccessful decision.

7. Monitoring

The trustees monitor every grant made.
